The Music department at Nailsea School is a vibrant, creative department with a dedicated and enthusiastic team. We are committed to supporting students to achieve their full potential in the study of Music and Musical Instruments. We offer students a wealth of extra curricular opportunities.
The department is furnished with a suite of Mac computers using Logic, Garageband & Sibelius, a recording studio, spacious classrooms and a number of practice rooms. Peripatetic instrumental and vocal lessons are available by arrangement.
Year 7s have 2 music lessons a fortnight. The units of work are: Medieval music, Chinese music, African music, Form & Music, Folk Music and Orchestral Instruments. Our aim is to give them a good foundation of music through Listening, Performing and composing.
Year 8s have 2 music lessons a fortnight. The units of work are: Musicals, Cuban Music, Classical Music, Theme & Variations, The Blues & Music & The Media. Our aim is to build on their musical skills through Listening, Performing & Composing Music.
Year 9s have 2 music lessons a fortnight. The units of work are: Music & The Moving Image, Classical music through the ages, Remix, Minimalism, Pop Music & Song Writing. We aim to prepare them for further studies of music through Listening, Performing and Composing
We offer Extra Curricular Music through Choir, Orchestra, Jazz Band, Vocalise, Barbershop, Flute, Clarinet, String and Brass Groups. We hold regular concerts in school and in the community.
