YEAR 11 – CLASS OF 2025 RESULTS
Although many students arrived looking nervous to collect their GCSE results this summer at Nailsea School, emotions quickly turned to joy with the school celebrating another year of improved outcomes.
The class of 2025 demonstrated resilience and focus with 57% of the students achieving a grade 5 or above in English and Maths and 39% of all grades being awarded a grade 7 and above – both well above the national average. Across all headline measures this year’s results show a 10% improvement on the 2024 outcomes and students, on average, achieved half a grade higher across all subjects when compared to last year.
Mrs Elliott, Head teacher, said
“It’s been another fantastic experience seeing students open their envelopes this morning. These results only come about through a mixture of excellent teaching, motivated students and supportive parents – something we are all very proud of here at Nailsea. Yet again there have been some tremendous individual successes that sit behind these headline figures. We work hard here to raise aspirations and the self-belief of all of our students so that they feel they can push themselves to do better than they think possible. These results have demonstrated that this is the case. I wish the class of 2025 all the best for the future.”.
Nailsea School is proud to be part of the Wessex Learning Trust, whose support has helped our students achieve excellent exam results. Their guidance in teaching, leadership and school improvement, alongside operational support, allows us to focus on delivering high-quality education and driving student success.
Year 13s collected their much-anticipated results this summer from Nailsea School, in what has been another fantastic year, for the Sixth Form. Students started arriving at the school in time for the 9am collection, with many hearing from their chosen universities of their successful placement in the early hours of the morning.
Many students will be moving on to universities with others taking up apprenticeships. There are some fantastic success stories this year – students have secured places at Oxford and Cambridge; just under 10% of students achieved a series of straight A/A*s and almost 50% of the cohort achieved grades at AAB or better. Yet, beyond these headline figures, there are stories of character and resilience, with students who have all worked hard to achieve their very best and, in fact, exceed expectations.
Mrs Elliott, Headteacher said:
“Some incredible figures this year – but more importantly some remarkable individual achievements, our students have worked so hard and have achieved so much – every year, I am in awe of their determination. Many thanks, as well, to the dedication and efforts of our fantastic staff who have worked with the students supporting them during their 6th form experiences. Congratulations Class of 2025”
Nailsea School Sixth Form offers a broad range of courses as well as encouraging students to think independently, and to develop leadership skills to accompany their academic studies. This holistic programme allows students to understand the world around them, recognise their own success at all levels and builds their confidence.
Mr Truan, Assistant Head – Head of Sixth Form said:
“I am never not impressed by how focused and determined our students are at creating bright, happy futures for themselves and through our community ambassador programme, understanding what a positive effect they can have on the world. Well done to all our students – it’s been a pleasure to work with you over the past two years.’
2024 Overview
Our Progress 8 Score this year is +0.26. Students make more progress at Nailsea than any other school in North Somerset and considerably out-perform expectations.
Our English outcomes are also exceptional and we are proud of the hard work of students and their dedicated teachers.
The results achieved by our students in 2024 are fantastic. We are proud of our students and staff and the efforts made by every member of the school community to ensure that Nailsea is a beacon of aspiration, progress and happiness within the local community.
Since 2019 the school has been amongst the most improved in the South West and the top 3% nationally, attracting recent attention from the Sunday Times, who place Nailsea as the 7th best comprehensive in the South West.
The gaps between different groups of learners not only exceed the national average but also continue to improve at a significant rate, particularly boys and pupil premium.
We know that the combination of a carefully tailored curriculum for each student, providing quality and depth of learning, alongside our outstanding pastoral care and child-centred approach, leads to exceptional outcomes for every student.
We are a fantastic school, we are proud of everyone here, and we are proud to work here. We also know that the journey carries on, and we will work tirelessly to ensure every young person in our community reaches their potential and goes on to lead a happy and fulfilling life, contributing to society in myriad ways, some tangible, some intangible, but all utterly vital.
Headteacher, Mrs Elliott commented, “We are delighted that accountability measures reflect what we know is happening in this wonderful school. But we also know and believe wholeheartedly that behind every single grade there are individual stories of perseverance and resilience that cannot be measured by accountability measures. I continue to be immensely proud of our students’ achievements.”
