Students : Curriculum : English : Media Studies
Media Studies explores the mass media, its producers, its meanings and its
impact on society.
We believe strongly that our students should leave Nailsea School not only
able to use a range of media technology but also able to deconstruct and understand
the meanings behind the mass media that surround them in today’s high speed
digital society. This is what we mean by media literacy.
Media Studies is a hugely popular and successful subject at Nailsea School.
We run GCSE AS and A2 courses as well as incorporating media education into English
at Key Stage 3. With our Media Arts Specialist Status we are using media as a
teaching tool across the curriculum and increasing the media literacy of all
of our students is a whole school aim.
We are, of course, superbly equipped thanks to our Specialist Status. We have
Apple Mac computers, industry standard cameras and a highly skilled and motivated
media technician. We make and edit films, animate, make podcasts as well as desk
top publishing magazines, newspapers and advertisements to a virtually professional
standard. We offer students and staff regular training in using this technology.
