GCSE
The GCSE course in Modern Languages builds on the language(s) acquired at Key Stage 3. You will be entered for Foundation or Higher Level in each skill, depending on your progress.
Coursework will be completed in class and at home. Normally, four pieces will be completed, the best three of which will be entered for the examination.
This course aims to prepare you for future study and to provide you with a good foundation for using languages in work or leisure. Studying a modern language fosters valuable transferable skills such as communicating, negotiating, analysing and presenting.
With fewer students gaining a qualification in a modern foreign language, many employers are very keen to recruit students who do possess this skill. In fact, over 60% of UK trade is with non-English speaking countries, but only one in ten workers in the UK can speak a foreign language. Therefore continuing with a language will enhance students’ profile and be compatible with most career choices.
