Applied French GCSE

For those who are interested in leisure and tourism, and the use of French in the business world, the MFL faculty is introducing a new course - Applied GCSE French.  The course puts strong emphasis on ICT skills, as well as written and oral communication.

The Applied GCSE course in French builds on the language skills acquired at Key Stage 3 within the specialist context of 'Leisure and Tourism'.  There will be an emphasis on practical application of the language, and you will learn to communicate effectively in a variety of 'real life' situations.

Coursework will be completed in class and at home.  You will submit 3 main samples of written work, 2 of which will be completed under exam conditions.

This course aims to prepare you effectively for using your language skills in relevant and practical contexts with an emphasis on the world of work.  Applied French GCSE therefore also provides a good foundation for further study or for using languages for leisure.

With fewer students gaining a qualification in a modern foreign language, many employers are very keen to recruit students who do possess this skill.  In fact, over 60% of UK trade is with non-English speaking countries, but only one in ten workers in the UK can speak a foreign language.  Therefore continuing with a language will enhance students’ profile and be compatible with most career choices.
