Staff : CPD

At Nailsea School our main purpose is learning – for both staff and students. The process of continuing professional development (CPD) aims to increase the effectiveness of all staff and governors, both as individuals and team members. We try to provide a variety of training opportunities according to individual and group needs.

We have the Investors in People accreditation and the assessor recognised the strength of our CPD and the collaborative nature of much of our work:

‘The commitment to support, train and develop people is very strong’

‘The mature, systematic and effective training and development processes within the school’

‘The wide range of skills and experience within the school and the willingness of people to share and develop together’

(Quotes from our IIP report 2005)

All new members of staff are entitled to a thorough induction process which includes

  • An induction programme with a mentor about role specific issues as well as  joining  a group to discuss whole school issues so that new colleagues quickly become aware of the many facets of school.

  • If you are starting as an NQT then you will be part of the whole school induction programme as well as one tailored to your needs.

At the end of the induction year each member of staff has a professional review during which future training needs are identified.

We work closely with the Local Authority in providing appropriate training opportunities for all staff.
