All specialist schools teach a broad and balanced curriculum, meeting the requirements of the National Curriculum whilst enjoying enriched learning opportunities in their chosen specialist subject area.  80% of all secondary schools in England now have specialist statu.

Specialist schools are required to raise £50,000 of private sector sponsorship and submit a bid to the Secretary of State showing how they will:

• raise standards overall
• increase achievement in their specialist subjects
• help at least six partner schools, mainly primary schools, to raise standards
• commit to build 14-19 pathways and work with employers to enhance learning opportunities for young people
