These are just some of the comments received by the Learning Support department
in the past few months.
The Learning Support Department at Nailsea School is there to develop the
talents of students having some form of special educational need. We do not have
a set system of support; we firstly look at the student’s individual needs
and build our systems to meet these. We recognise that every student is an individual
and what may work for one student may not work for another.
Led by the SENCO, the Learning Support Department is a team of teachers and
teaching assistants who are all committed to realising the potential of all our
students.
We provide;
- a high level of in-class support where staff are working in the classroom
alongside individuals and groups of students.
- withdrawal for students to work
on specific needs which are not covered in the curriculum, this may involve support
with literacy and numeracy, or social and emotional support through our partner
department, the Small School.
- academic and behavioural mentoring for students
identified as underachieving.
- liaison with faculties, year heads, parents, partner
primary schools and outside agencies to find solutions to curriculum and pastoral
issues including transfer.
- relevant Key Stage 4 provision through the ASDAN course
and links with further education and work based learning providers.
- an individual
education plan for very student registered as having a special educational need.
Parental partnership is very important to us and we have a Parent Support
Group who meet regularly to discuss common concerns, details can be obtained
from the school.
Please contact the SENCO at the school if you would like to discuss your child’s
individual needs, we would be pleased to show you around the school.
