Celebrations at Nailsea School !
Parents/ Nailsea Community will be pleased to hear that the recent Ofsted inspectors discovered that students enjoy coming to school! Attendance levels are above average and continue to rise!
The school is successful in promoting personal development and well-being.
Participation in highly extensive programmes of stimulating cross-curricular and extra-curricular activities enable students to gain further confidence and new skills.
Inspectors particularly highlighted the Sixth Form work on citizenship, environmental action, visits to Auschwitz, and involvement with faith groups and Asian performing arts groups, as giving students an exceptional range of experiences.
Significant numbers of students attain very high standards and a large proportion progress to higher education.
A clear sense of direction, focused on raising achievement from the relatively new headteacher provides a good curriculum, with increased flexibility and choice. Recent KS3 results for English, Mathematics and Science show a marked improvement in attainment. GCSE results at the end of Year 11 are significantly above national averages.
Furthermore the strong leadership team has a clear view about where it needs to concentrate its energies and the school is well placed for further progress. They are committed to broadening the range of courses on offer.
Wise use of the school’s specialist status funding, has enabled it to contribute positively to attainment. It is increasing the take-up of successful Media Arts courses and has promoted the effective use of Information and Communication Technology across the school. Some innovative activities are enhancing significantly pupils’ experiences in lessons, building particularly well on the work pupils do in their primary schools. Students with learning difficulties and disabilities are catered for well as are those who are particularly talented.
Sixth Form students readily take on valuable and challenging roles supporting younger students, while the school also provides further high levels of care, support and guidance. A strong anti-bullying stance and the practice of dealing with any intimidation swiftly and effectively, enable students to state that they feel very safe in school.
