Parents : Prospective Parents : Application Details
Nailsea School historically admits up to 240 pupils into Year 7 in September of each school year. Where the number of applications exceeds the numbers of places available, places will be allocated in accordance with the Council's over-subscription criteria. Full details of this can be found in the publication "Transfer to secondary school: a guide for parents", available at the school. The criteria includes factors such as distances from home to school and sibling links.
When parents are new to the area or wish to transfer their children to Nailsea School from other local Secondary schools, they should contact the main office in the first instance, to see if there is a place available for their child.
Parents of year 6 children in our local cluster primary schools, are contacted by the Local Authority Education Department, to indicate their choice of secondary school for their child. We are delighted to note, that the over-whelming majority of these parents put our school as their first choice. In September each year parents/carers are asked to state their preferred school giving reasons for their decision. The preference form for Year 7 entry must then be returned to the LEA. Alternatively online applications are possible through the local government website.
If Nailsea School can reasonably accommodate all that express preference for it, offers of places will be made early in the spring term. If the school has more applications than there are places available, the LEA will determine the successful applicants by applying the published over-subscription criteria.
