Mr D Graffagnino
Extended Senior Leadership Team – Senior Head of House/ Head of Phoenix House
I have been teaching at Nailsea School for 10 years and have had a variety of different roles during my time here. I was first employed as a PE teacher and 3 years later was appointed subject leader. In this role I had oversight of progress and attainment of PE and developed courses to ensure they were challenging and engaging. I then decided to focus on the pastoral responsibilities and 3 years ago I was appointed Head of Phoenix House and now as Senior Head of House.
My overall aim is to work together to try and help each other achieve our very best. In my role I endeavor to ‘celebrate effort, success and achievement at all levels and across all areas of the School’. This also includes any effort, success and achievement made outside of School. I have led many new initiatives across the school, my personal favourite being the new rewards system.
I aspire to nurture the talent and enthusiasm of our students and allow them to succeed in life whichever pathway they choose to follow.

My journey at Nailsea School started in 2009 when I was appointed to the position of Business Manager, my interview was my first time in a secondary school since I was a student! I am a qualified Chartered Accountant, specialising in the public sector, and have previously worked in the NHS in roles as Deputy Director or Finance and Head of Finance.
What I enjoy about working at Nailsea School is that no two days are ever the same, but every day is rewarding in some way. I enjoy working with the whole team at Nailsea, whether with staff, students, governors or our community partners, they are all great! There’s a lovely atmosphere, and some innovative thinking going on which continues to move us forward as a school.

Extended Leadership Team – Timetable and Data
I joined Nailsea School in September 2012, initially as a teacher of Science after spending some time teaching Science and being an assistant curriculum leader in Yeovil, Somerset. I moved to Nailsea becuase wanted the opportunity to teach Key Stage 5 Chemistry. Over the past two years I have really enjoyed the challenge of leading the Science department.
As part of the new Extended Senior Leadership Team, I’m responsible for the construction of the school timetable, the GCSE and 6th form options processes and anything data related.
I have always liked the challenge of building positive relationships with students and helping them achieve their potential and as such Nailsea School has appealed to me, from my first visit, as a calm, supportive environment where the value of the whole student is recognised. I think it’s fantastic to see the various successes of our students, both inside and outside of school. I look forward to helping the school continue its journey.
