Another Outstanding Year for Nailsea School

Nailsea students have yet again justified the school’s well-deserved reputation for academic success, with excellent results in all examinations taken this summer.   In Government tests for 14 year-olds [Key Stage 3 SATs] Nailsea students achieved the school’s best ever results, which could well put us in the top 25% of schools nationally.

In maths 89% of 14 year-olds achieved level 5 or higher, with an amazing 78% reaching level 6 or above. More students than ever reached levels 7 and 8 and we beat our target for level 6 and above by 10% for a second year running. In science, too, results exceeded expectation, with 89% of students reaching level 5 or higher, 60% of whom attained level 6 or above. English results were outstanding this year as well with 93% achieving level 5 and above and 55% level 6+. These excellent results reflect the strong emphasis we have put on achievement and enjoying learning.

With 65% of sixteen year-olds achieving 5 or more A* - C passes, and 98% gaining 5 or more passes at A* - G grades, Nailsea’s GCSE results are among the best in the county and reflect the high academic ethos of the school.  There were some remarkable successes among this year’s GCSE results with eleven students gaining seven or more A* and A grades. The top five performances this year came from; Jessica Claydon [1A* 8A], Sarah Ryan [5A* 4A], Joanna Cox [8A* 1B], Nicole Parr [5A* 3A 2B] and Lal Chadeesingh [5A* 1A].

We are particularly delighted with this year's “A” level results which are among the best in recent years, saying a lot for a school with a high reputation for its Sixth Form success. 103 students in Year 13 averaged 672 points per student. 23% of all entries were passed at grade A, 45% being passed at grades A or B and 70% at grades A – C. Katherine Mitchell achieved four straight A grades, while Helen Birkett, Sinitta Elahi, Samantha Golding and Louise Dean all achieved straight A grades in their three "A" level examinations. The overall results are excellent, and behind these statistics are real people who can now go on to their first choices in higher education training and employment beyond school. We are delighted that so many students have made the best of their excellent opportunities in the Sixth Form here.
