Nailsea School students make an ‘outstanding’ contribution to their community!
OfSTED inspectors who visited the school in the last week of April praised the way that Nailsea School students support one another as well as students in local primary and special schools. “The governors are delighted that amongst all the very positive statements in the report, the personal development and positive relationships in the school are praised”, said Chair of Governors Alan Walker.
Outstanding features of the school include ‘how well the school works in partnership to promote learners’ well being, the personal development of students, particularly in the sixth form, the contribution students make to the community and the care and guidance of students, again, particularly in the sixth form. Leadership of the school is described as good and the work done by the school to set a clear direction for the school is also praised in the report. Under the current “effective” leadership the inspectors assessed that this school is improving and has good capacity to make further improvement. Although not officially part of the inspection, the team recognised the excellence of the work done by the leadership of the school to develop the new school on the site, the quality of the design and how it will inspire even higher standards of achievement.
Jon Reddiford, Head of sixth form, was delighted by the report which accorded good and outstanding grades to all aspects of the work done with the sixth form. “It is really good to have the hard work of staff – both tutors and teachers – of sixth form students recognised so positively”, he said.
Opening a brand new £30 million state of the art building in September 2009, Nailsea School has improved results in all areas over the past few years and is developing an exciting new curriculum as part of the DCSF initiative. Nailsea is now in a prime position to move to the top of the league tables. “The OfSTED inspection was very useful in confirming both our own judgements about the school, and what we are doing as we seek ever higher standards. I am very proud of the staff and students of the school, and grateful to the parents who responded so positively on the questionnaire they received.” said Headteacher David New.
