Year 8 students had the chance to take part in a workshop with author Fiona Hamilton in October. Fiona is author of ‘Bite Sized’ a story in verse about anorexia, relationships, and love. Her two poetry books are ‘Skindandi’ and ‘Poems for People’, and her poems recently featured on BBC Radio’s Poetry Please.
Year 8 writers drew on readings of ‘Private Peaceful’ by Michael Morpurgo, an example of a story told after the trauma of war. The group considered why human beings need to tell stories, and what this means for them. Students were encouraged to find their own writing voice by exploring themes in a variety of creative ways, including dramatic dialogue, poetry, fiction and spoken word. Some of the work they produced will become part of a follow-on Armistice event at The Tythe Barn, Nailsea in November. Click here to see the poem written by the group
